As a natural complement to the Orchestra and, like the latter, a fully-fledged artistic component of Opéra de Rouen Normandie, the accentus / Opéra de Rouen Normandie Choir is an ensemble of non-permanent professional singers called upon where needed for individual productions. Operating under the artistic authority of accentus, an ensemble directed by Laurence Équilbey, it possesses a highly variable geometry enabling it to match the forces required for each work performed by Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie. Every score involves an encounter with a choirmaster chosen to fit the aesthetic of the work to be performed. The Choir notably performs on stage at Rouen’s Théâtre des Arts for most of the theatre’s operatic productions, but it also tours the local region and beyond as required by the season’s events. Its core purpose, training and goals also lead it to offer its services to opera houses, companies and festivals with no choral resources of their own and wishing to call upon an experienced ensemble.
